It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laraine surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 78 after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Laraine will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Kathy, Susan (Mike) and Erin (Sean), sister-in-law Liz (Tom) and grandchildren Jenna, Matthew, Megan and Evan. Laraine was predeceased by her husband Roger in 2001 and mother Elsie in 2008.
Laraine was born on a small farm in Neelin, Manitoba. Although an only child, Laraine had many cousins who were like siblings to her. She married Roger in 1964 after training as a registered nurse. After working for several years as an ER nurse at St. Boniface Hospital, she trained as an occupational health nurse, working at Hudson’s Bay, Domtar and the University of Manitoba until her retirement.
Roger’s career as a United Church minister took them from Winnipeg to Climax, SK, Atikokan, ON, and Winnipeg (Transcona and Fort Richmond). They were active in the church and had many treasured friends. Many summers were spent at the cottage at West Hawk Lake, in addition to travelling. They loved to dance and are now reunited to do so once again.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their excellent care in her final years.
Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:30 PM pm on Saturday October 16, 2021 from Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota Street. If you wish to attend, please RSVP to [email protected] PLEASE NOTE: In order to attend, you must be double vaccinated.
The service will be recorded and can be sent upon request.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Laraine's name can be made to the United Church in Meadowood (https://ucim.org) where she was an active member for many years.
