It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gary Kerney Godlein. Gary passed away at the age of 77 on Nov. 24th, 2022.
He is survived by; His son: Chris (April), His daughters: Malisa (Brian), and Kyla (Curtis), His sisters: Betty, Ruth, Linda, and Brenda (David) , His brothers: Delmar (Elaine), Bobby (Lorraine), Kelvin and Bradley, and numerous nieces and nephews. His companion: Nancy and her children: Chad and Candray (Wally), His grandchildren (Mabels): Myah, Aiden, Elton, Jessica, Brett, Brendan, Braden, Cody, Breanna, Tyson, Taylor, Tori, Kaylee, Henry, and Stella, His former spouse: Linda, and many fur babies.
He is pre-deceased by: His baby girl: Natasha (Tasha),His father and mother: Kerney Godlien and Isabella Godlien, His sister: Barbara, His brothers: Leonard and Keith, His sister-in-law: Debbie, and his nephew: Justin.
Gary was born Sept. 8th, 1945, and grew up in Kelliher, Saskatchewan. He left Kelliher at a young age to join the army, where he would receive his firefighter training. He married his former spouse Linda, who is the mother of his four children. His career was pursued as a firefighter at the Regina airport, where he later moved to The Pas, Manitoba and took on the position of fire chief. Gary’s work relocated him and his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba, working at the Winnipeg airport fire station, where he retired. Throughout his career journey he made many lifelong friends.
After retirement, he spent the rest of his life with his children, grandchildren, and his companion Nancy. Most days were passed waking up to feed the squirrels, blue jays, and rabbits. Gary loved to cook enough to feed a small army.
Gary will be greatly missed by many family and friends.
As per Gary’s request, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. The family will have a private gathering at a later date. The family would like to thank: Cancer Care Manitoba, Seven Oaks Hospital, and St. Boniface Hospital for their continuous care and support for Gary in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or Winnipeg Pet Rescue.
