It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Elaine Pinette (nee Roy) who passed away peacefully on March 21st at the age of 65 with family and friends at her side after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at Bethesda Regional Health Centre.
Her memory will be forever cherished by husband Garry, daughter Amanda, parents Louis/Elizabeth Roy of Brandon, brothers Kurtis (Teresa) Roy of Medicine Hat Alberta, James (Sandi) Roy, sister-in-law Sharon (Joe) Minuk, sisters-in-law Michele Pinette and Carmen Pinette. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces as well as her extended family and many friends who will miss her dearly.
Elaine was born on November 24th, 1957 in Strathroy, Ontario. Her father’s employment took the family across the country. This, as well as summers spent on the family farm with extended family provided Elaine with many stories of her adventures. She would tell these tales with sparkle in her eye. In high school Elaine became involved in musical theatre. She loved to sing and had a beautiful singing voice.
Elaine obtained her nursing training at the Misericordia School of Nursing and began her career on H4 at the Health Sciences Centre. After a few years on a medical ward she moved on to the Women’s Hospital where she found her true passion. She loved the excitement and nothing made her happier than bringing a new life into the world and caring for the new moms. She eventually became a Clinical Resource Nurse on both the LDRP and High Risk labour units. She mentored many nurses over the course of her career. She wound up her career working in Blood Management for the Department of Anesthesiology.
She met her true love Garry on November 15th, 1976 and it didn’t take long for their love to grow. They began their married life on September 1st, 1979. They celebrated 45 years of marriage this past year. After Amanda’s arrival in 1989 Elaine dug into motherhood, a role she cherished. In spite of shift work and working full time she managed to keep our lives and home organized.
Elaine had a knack for design and decorating. This led to building and renovating many homes over the course of their marriage. Garry was a willing participant in this and together they created a welcome environment for family and friends. She loved to entertain especially on the holidays. The homes were always decorated to celebrate these special dates throughout the year. Her creativity led her to flower arranging. Not only for her own home but for family and friends too. All of whom were willing recipients of one of her beautiful arrangements.
In retirement, winters were spent in her special place Huatulco, Mexico, where she had another wide and varied circle of friends that she enjoyed re-connecting with every year.
The memory of Elaine’s warm smile and her quiet and gentle nature will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend our gratitude and thanks the wonderful Doctors and Nurses at Bethesda Regional Health Centre who treated Elaine with so much love and compassion throughout the duration of her illness and into her final days.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Elaine’s memory to CancerCare MB.
A memorial service will be held Saturday April 1st at 2 PM at Green Acres Funeral Home.
