It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunty Dora Scaletta on April 27, 2012 at the age of 88 at St. Boniface General Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Dora was born on September 15, 1923, in Hodgson, Manitoba, where she lived with her family until she moved to Winnipeg in order to work. Shortly after, she met and married the love of her life Zeno Scaletta. They were married for 53 years before Zeno passed away in 2009.
Dora was predeceased by her parents, Ali and Jemilia Abas, her brother and his wife Joe and Hilda Abas, her sister Freda and husband Albert Austin, and brother-in-laws Andrew Gulay, Clint Norton, and Abraham Hager.
Dora leaves to mourn brothers Ernest (Anne), Omar (Reny), sisters Lillian Norton, Annie Hager, Irene Gulay, and in-laws Josie (Dominic) Dacquisto, Frank (Betty) Scaletta, and Vivian (Pat) Grande.
She also leaves behind her many numerous nieces and nephews to mourn. Although Dora and Zeno had no children of their own, they loved, cared for, and fed their nieces and nephews like they were their own. Their house was always filled with much love, laughter and lots of good food.
On behalf of the Scaletta and the Abas families, we would like to thank the staff of the St. Boniface General Hospital, Unit 5E, for all their care, kindness, and support during Dora’s stay there. It was greatly appreciated by all.
In accordance with Dora’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
