Earl Baughman was called home by our Lord on July 14, 2016. He died from congestive heart failure. Earl was born in Masontown, PA in 1924, the oldest of seven children, and lived in Pennsylvania until he was 19, when he enlisted in the Navy during WW11 in 1943 and served until 1946. In 1943 Earl met Alyne O’Neill at a USO dance in Oakland, CA and married her in 1944. They were married 72 years. Upon discharge he immediately started work for the federal government at the Naval Air Station, Alameda, California until 1956. In 1947 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps reserve and was called to active duty as a Master Sergeant in Korea in 1950 to 1951. In 1956 he transferred to the General Services Administration, San Francisco and worked there until retirement in 1974. During his tenure there he rose to the position of Regional Commissioner of the Public Buildings Service being responsible for all federal buildings operations in the states of California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii. He and his wife Alyne traveled extensively throughout the USA and enjoyed numerous cruises. His love for golf was so great that, upon retirement, he played 7 days a week for 4 years. He was always active in retirement, restoring classic cars, making wooden toys for the San Diego abused children program, served as a Red Cross volunteer at the Navy Hospital in San Diego, and served in his home owners’ association continuously. He is survived by his wife Alyne, son Ronald, predeceased by his daughter, Marguerite who died in 2004 at the age of 54, 4 grandsons, 3 great granddaughters, and 3 great grandsons. He will be inurned at the Miramar National Cemetery.
