Bill E. LaRue was born in Spokane, Wash., on December 01, 1932. Bill was the 3rd child out of six children born to Carl and Mary LaRue. Bill grew up with his 5 Siblings, Ernie, Marjorie, Gary, Larry and Lynda on their family farm in Spokane. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and eventually retired after serving 22 years. His Brother Gary, has provided the following details of his military career with the Navy.
Bill E. LaRue, retired U.S. Navy, served his Country with HONOR & DISTINCTION. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and served throughout the South Pacific, on carriers, ammunition ships, and torpedo retrievers. He had shore duty in Japan, California, Washington State and South Carolina. He was recognized with numerous awards and citations. He served one tour of duty with the U.S. Coast Guard, aboard Polar Sea, an ice breaker, headed to the Antarctica. To all that knew him, he was a loyal, generous Brother, Friend, always willing to help. He loved his family, his GOD and his Country. We will all miss him.
Bill eventually moved to San Diego, California, and worked & retired as a Civilian crane operator in the ship yards. In addition, he worked in construction. In 1967 he married Lucy, and was a loyal & loving husband to her for 52 years of marriage. Bill and Lucy were a great team supporting each other in every way. Together they shared everything life can offer.
They enjoyed their memberships in several different organizations. The Eagles, the VFW, Fleet Reserve, and the American Legion. Bill liked long drives with his family, Lucy would pack a lunch, and eventually his sons, Larry and Lester, would be fast asleep in the back seat.
Bill enjoyed his vacations back home to see his siblings in Washington, he liked fishing, camping, yard work, weekend Barbecues with Lucy's family, trips out to the desert with Lester, Kirsten & their family. Bill liked working on home repairs, and anything he could do with his hands.
Bill E. LaRue, 86, of National City, passed away on Sunday March 24, 2019, at home, surrounded by the love of his wife, his son & daughter in law.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lucy, son Lester & his wife Kirsten; grandsons, Junior, Will (Ora), & Chris; grand-daughters Lisa & Kelsey; brother Gary (Ellie) & Larry(Sue) ; sister Lynda (Lawrence); and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Larry and James; his brother Ernie (Ruby) and sister Marjorie.
Bill loved his wife and sons with all his heart. He always was willing to just listen, and he inspired his family with these simple words. "Whatever happens, life does go on." His strength and endurance in life has allowed his family to remain strong & live life to its fullest, in hopes of HONORING the man that he was and the way the he lived his life.
What a blessing to have had him as our Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle & Friend.
