He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Lee, Sr. and Ruth Young Lee, as well as his two wives, Elizabeth Ricketts Lee, the mother of his children, and Martha Alsup Lee. Survivors include his daughter, Anne Lee, of Nashville, TN, son, Bob (Eliska) Lee, of Dalton, GA, and granddaughter Meredith (Richard) Milburn of Dalton, GA. He is also survived by brother, Jimmy Lee, and nephew, Martin Lee, both of Sparta, TN.
Bill spent two years serving our country in the Navy in WWII, and then returned home to graduate with an engineering degree from UT, where he played in the “Pride of the Southland Marching Band”, and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He founded Academy Industries, a manufacturing company, in 1969 and was the company's President and CEO until his retirement in 1995.
Bill was always an active Christian husband and father, and had served several Church of Christ congregations as song leader, deacon, and Bible school teacher. He will be remembered by friends and family for his beautiful voice, his humor, and his kindness.
Visitation 11:30am until the funeral service at 1:00pm Friday, July 17 at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
