William F. Carpenter, Jr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee on April 8, 1929 and died on April 28, 2018. He was 89 years old. Bill was married for more than [65] years to Clare Anne Drowota Carpenter. For most of his career, he was a lawyer with the Nashville firm of Goodpasture, Carpenter & Woods, and later served of counsel with the office of the Tennessee Attorney General. He was a talented lawyer who loved mentoring younger lawyers. Also successful in retirement, he enjoyed many hobbies and traveling to interesting destinations with his wife Clare. He loved spending time with his family and rarely missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s games. He could be provocative in a debate and loved a good practical joke. He will be missed by his wife, Clare, brother John Carpenter (Sandra), son Bill Carpenter III (Trudy), daughters Frances McWhirter Andrews (Doug) and Clare Carpenter, as well as his grandchildren and great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Russell Carpenter and his brother Dick Carpenter. A visitation with the family will be held from 11-1 on Wednesday, May 2 at the home of Bill and Trudy Carpenter, located at 4005 Newman Place, Nashville, TN 37204. A private service for the family will be held, but no other funeral is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
