Ruth Robertson Spence

Mrs. Spence was both August 24, 1926, in Taft, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Charles L. and Gertrude Greene Robertson. She was educated in Lincoln County public schools, and she is a graduate of the former Draughons Business College. She spent more than 45 years as an accountant and business owner in Nashville, retiring in the early 1990s from Alcoa Corp. She subsequently was a volunteer for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville.

Her parents, her husband Joe A. Spence, two sisters, a brother and a great grandchild preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Anthony J. Spence of Washington, D.C. Don P. (Joan) Spence of Nashville; and Jeffery B. Spence of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Lawrence (Beverly) Robertson of Fayetteville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 4-8 p.m., at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. Memorial services for family and friends will be conducted on Friday, August 7, 11:00 a.m., at the Cathedral of Incarnation with Deacon James W. McKenzie presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
