Macon, Robert A., age 87, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013. Mr. Macon was the son of the late Archie Jesse and Melissa Weeks Macon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vally L. Macon, who passed away in 2001. Mr. Macon is survived by his daughter, Hilda Macon Young; grandson, Robyn F. (Bonnie) Young; granddaughter, Alana Young; great grandsons, Christopher A. Young and Taylor B. Young; sister, Mary Doubler; and brother, David R. (Edna) Macon and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be the morning of Tuesday, April 16, at 11:30 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Placement will follow in Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum with military honors. Mr. Macon was the grandson of Grand Ole Opry star Uncle Dave Macon. He was a decorated retired Command Sergeant Major in the US Army, having served during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from the US Army, he taught machine shop at Nashville Tech, volunteered with many organizations including The Country Music Hall of Fame, where he was named several times, “Volunteer of the Year”. In lieu of customary floral tributes, memorials may be made to Alive Hospice or The Union Mission. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2:00 till 6:00 and Monday evening from 5:00 till 8:00 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204, 615-383-4754.
