Richard Shepherd Jr.

Richard Shepherd, Jr. passed away Wednesday June 12, 2019 at age 95. Funeral service will be Monday June 17 at 2:00 pm in Wallace Chapel on the campus of Christ Church Nashville, 15354 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37211. The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:45 prior to the service. Entombment with military honors will be at Woodlawn Rosch-Patton on Thompson Lane in Nashville following the service.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Miriam (Mimi) Clements, their four children David Richard Shepherd (Cherie Morrow), Ronald Clements Shepherd (Alice Curtis), Diana Leigh Cooksey (Roger), and Sherri Shepherd Lakoff. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Jonathan Shepherd, Rachel Boye (Jonathan), Daniel Shepherd (Eden Frangipane), Aaron Shepherd (Rachel Pitt), Rebekah Orr (Joshua), John Michael Shepherd (Rachel Butts), Mary Beth Guido (Michael), Matthew Shepherd, Jamie Ferguson (Matt), Chali Cooksey, Tayler Butcher (Cannon), Lincoln Joseph Lakoff (Katie Hillis), and Susan Lakoff; and sixteen great grandchildren: Lauren Boye, Evangeline Boye, Audrey Boye, Emma Grace Boye, Elijah Ferguson, Levi Ferguson, Judah Ferguson, Basil Shepherd, Viggo Shepherd, Rose Shepherd, Nico Shepherd, Abel Shepherd, Sunny Shepherd, Elliott Orr, Aven Guido, and Lillian Diana Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter India Avaline Boye.

Born in Louisville, KY, he grew up in Springfield, TN and in 1943 graduated from Springfield High School where he was a football standout. He then joined the Army, serving with honor in the European theater during World War II. After military service, he attended Bowling Green College of Commerce, and through the years was engaged in the savings and loan industry, real estate, home building, and apartment property management.
