

Raymond Hunter Canady, age 94, departed this life on December 19, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 29, 1926 in Nunnelly, Tennessee to the late James Clinton and Mary Agnes Hunter Canady. In addition his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Dorris Ashworth Canady, granddaughter, Angela Brannon.
He is survived by Daughter, Susan (David) Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee; Son, Raymond D. (Cindy) Canady of Nolensville, Tennessee; Brother, Dr. Robert Lynn (Marjorie) Canady and their family (Carol, Donna, Robert and Sarah) of Charlottesville, Virginia; Grandchildren, Miles H. Canady (Fiancé`, Hayley Smith), Troy A. Johnson and family, Celeste Blackwell, Heather (Josh) Combs, Brandon (Brandi) Cook; Great-Grandchildren, Gaige, Preslee, Jackson, Ansley and Holden.
Hunter was a humble man who never bragged about his life. During the onset of World War II, he joined the U.S. Army where he was a proud member of General Douglas A. McArthur Honor Guard team. As an enlisted man he obtained the rank of SSGT (Staff Sergeant). He received the following citations and merits commendations, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He will always be remember as a loving spouse, father, grandfather (pawpaw and gangan) and great-grandfather(Granpapa). Hunter retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1994 after serving for over twenty-five years. After retirement, he enjoyed the peacefulness in his gazebo gardening and the serenity of birds in his yard. His favorite thing was coffee, the stronger and blacker the better with only a hint of Splenda. He enjoyed helping others that needed help and working with the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Organization and growing flowers and working in the garden.
A Graveside service will be held at one thirty in the afternoon on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, in the Field of Honor. The family requests that all in attendance remember to wear a facial coverings and maintain social distancing.
