She was born in Gadsden, Alabama, on December 29, 1928. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeddie Cothran and Zoebelle Paris.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Robert Black, and we know she is joyful in being reunited with him again. She is survived by her loving children, Allen (Nancy) Black, Ginne (Jim) Hornsby, and Mark (Margo) Black along with her grandchildren Amy, Stacey, David, Mark, Elizabeth, Jimmy, Allen, Sara, Jessi, and Allison, and also her 13 great-grandchildren.
Her loving church families at Chestnut Drive Church of Christ in Atlanta and Lebanon Road Church of Christ in Nashville held a special place in her heart. She was a resident at McKendree Village in Nashville where she quickly made a lasting impression. She had many dear friends who became like family to her.
Known for her fun, loving, and Christ-centered life, she loved to make people laugh with her silliness. She loved bluegrass music, Auburn football, romantic comedies, Stone Mountain park, and classic shows like I Love Lucy. Most of all she loved to spend time in scripture and singing old hymns. Her favorite place to be was with her family, serving chocolate meringue pie and breaking up fights over her signature frozen “pink stuff.” She taped every classic movie she ever saw onto VHS tapes and delighted in watching them over and over again. She always had goofy hats and glasses for her family to wear at Christmas for photos after we all packed into her living room for stockings. She loved to crawl around on the floor with her great-grandchildren to make them laugh and bring them the gifts she collected everywhere she went.
She had a gift for making her people feel loved, and her love of the Lord was passed down to her children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren. She loved to talk, and, if you knew her, then you heard about how very proud she was of her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends, and all who knew her. We are joyful in knowing she is now at peace and at home with Jesus.
Special thanks to Dr. William Petrie, Mary Ann Patterson, Lynette Brown, her sweet friends at Lakeshore Heartland Community, and the wonderful staff at McKendree Village for taking such great care of our Granny.
