JOHNSTON, Paul Harold, 89, died peacefully on September 26, 2014, in Nashville. Paul was born on March 3, 1925, in Scranton, PA. His parents were the late James and Mary Whisted Johnston. Paul was the youngest of nine children and the lone living sibling is Florence Maloney of Tampa, FL. Paul and Ann Marie (Maloney) were married for 67 years until her death in 2012. A decorated veteran of World War II, he fought throughout the Pacific Coast Theater on the U.S. Navy destroyer ship, the Dashiell. He was critically wounded at the Battle of Leyte Gulf and was awarded the Purple Heart. Paul had recently relocated to Nashville from Scranton, PA after having lived in Binghamton, NY, Huntsville, AL, and Manassas, VA. He is survived by five children, Paul J. Johnston (Kathleen), Jimmy Johnston (Barbara), Jerry Johnston (Carol), Jeaneen Tucker (Steve), Mareen Dahulich (Tim) and 10 grandchildren, Michael Johnston (Kim), Eric Johnston (Nicole), Cara Haley (Martin); Kyle Johnston (Amanda), Jeremy Johnston, Jason Johnston, Briggs Paul Tucker, Nathan Johnston, Collin Tucker, and Patrick Dahulich, and his great grandchildren, Adam, Meghan, Katelyn Johnston and baby Caleb Johnston and Heather Johnston. He was preceded in death by his oldest son William ‘Billy’ Johnston.
Paul Harold’s life was devoted to his wife and family and his Catholic faith. He was the husband, father, friend and servant that everyone aspires to be. His keen sense of humor was second to none and brought joy to all he met.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John C Henrick at St. Ignatius Catholic Community Church, 601 Bell Road, Antioch, TN at Noon on Monday, September 29, 2014. Visitation will be held from 10:00-Noon at the Church.
