Born May 30, 1927, transitioned into eternal life March 5, 2016. Wife of the late Bowling Briggs Boyd Jr., she was daughter of the late Jesse Jeffrey Hooberry, Jr. and Esther Halstead Hooberry. The oldest of five siblings, she was preceded in death by William (Buddy) Hooberry, Elizabeth (Betsy) Burkhalter, Jesse Jeffrey (Peanut) Hooberry, III and Fred Hooberry, and her son-in-law Larry Beasley, her grandson Joshua Boyd Wallen and great grandson Elijah Jonathan Jordan.
She is survived by four adoring children, David Buchanan Boyd (Linda), Rebecca Boyd Wallen (Jeff), Susan Boyd Beasley, and Emily Boyd Gray (Cary). She was the loving and nurturing Grandma to 7 surviving grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Burton (Nathan), David Franklin Boyd (Tashia), Katherine Nicole Jordan (Whit), Patrick Briggs Boyd, Matthew Eric Sayers (Liz), Rebecca Elizabeth (Beth) Sayers and Jessie Lee Wallen. She was loved by 11 great grandchildren, Emma Burton, Anna Burton, Parker Boyd, Wyatt Boyd, Jonathan Agee, Allyson Lane, Lyndee Lane, Margaret Sayers, Ellen Sayers, Katherine Jordan and, through affection Macie Roberts. She is survived by 7 siblings-in-law, James Boyd (Rosalyn), Elizabeth Copeland, Dolly Hooberry, Bill Burkhalter, Sandra Hooberry and Bonnie Hooberry as well and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A committed follower of Christ, Miss Kitty (as she was known to family and friends) was an active member of the Lebanon Road Church of Christ. At Lebanon Road and other churches she taught Sunday school, mostly 5th and 6th grade, for 65 years and taught the Ladies Bible Class for 40. She was a graduate of the Peabody Demonstration School (University School) and held a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University. As a homemaker she created a home for not only her immediate family, but for elderly parents, Agape foster children, international students, and visiting missionaries. Her skill in homemaking reflected her artistry – whether through her sewing, handwork, decorating or extending hospitality to the countless people privileged to enjoy a meal at her table. A life-long lover of music she was a patron of the Nashville Symphony from its inception through the current season. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the Lebanon Road Garden Club.
A Celebration of Life will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Lebanon Road Church of Christ, 2307 Lebanon Road, Nashville, TN. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Wallen (son-in-law), Cary Gray (son-in-law), grandsons, David Boyd, Patrick Boyd Matthew Sayers, grandson-in-law, Nathan Burton. Honorary pallbearer, Clyde Ingram, beloved neighbor of 57 years.
Visitation with the family will be 4:00 pm till 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at Hibbett and Hailey Funeral Home, 429 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN and from 9:00 am till 10:00 am on Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Agape Nashville or the Nashville Symphony.
