Tinka (Lenore) Taylor Brown, of Davidson County, Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022 surrounded by family. A ninth generation Tennessean, she was born January 5, 1945. She is preceded in death by: her parents Lenore and Warren Taylor, her sweet brother Warren Taylor, Jr., her cherished son Beau (Sclater, III) and beloved husband Sclater Brown, Jr. Tinka and Sclater were married for 38 years before he passed away in 2007.
Tinka is survived by her loving daughter Mariclare Brown: cousins Amy Scruggs McKelvey (Thomas), Julian Cooley Scruggs (Beth), family friend Barbara Garcia and Trilby Williams her great friend and trusted doctor.
She attended: Parmer School, Nashville; Harpeth Hall School, Nashville; and Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.
Tinka was a lifelong member of Saint George’s Episcopal Church and many civic and social organizations.
Tinka and Sclater were former members of: Belle Meade Country Club, Nashville; Highland Falls Country Club, Highlands, North Carolina; Bay Hill Club, Bay Hill, Florida; and Sea Island Club, Sea Island, Georgia.
She loved to travel, her most memorable trip was before her marriage to Sclater. Her parents took her on a two month world cruise. Tinka loved entertaining and traveling to Sea Island with her family and to Highlands and Bay Hill with her best girlfriends lovingly nicknamed “The Hussies”.
Tinka was a festive holiday hostess, especially at Christmas. The daughter of an architect, her creative spirit made elaborate Christmas miniature doll houses for her family as gifts. Her home was filled with Christmas villages and wonderlands for all the little cousins to discover and explore.
She was always working on a 1,000 piece intricate jig saw puzzle. She had a jovial personality, infectious laugh and dressed immaculately in her bright, happy clothes. She was a ray of sunshine and sweet to everyone she met. Tinka’s greeting to her loved ones was “hello, doll baby” and her goodbye was “ good bye, doll baby, love ya” .
So we say “ good bye, doll baby, love ya, Tinka. “
A graveside service will be held at Mount Hope, Franklin, Tennessee, May 7, 2022, at 11:00. A celebration of Tinka’s life will be held at the family home later this summer.
