She was born July 29, 1927, in Donelson, TN to Vola Cook and Roy Clayton Flowers. She has one brother, RC Flowers. She had a wonderful marriage of 65 years to Dr. William King Nichol. She was blessed with four children, three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law whom she loved dearly. She has five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was employed at Third National Bank of Nashville, TN working in the bond department until she married in 1947. She was a former member of The Stones River Women's Club, The Ladies Hermitage Association, The National Dental Auxiliary and a Charter Member of Lincoya Hills Baptist Church in Donelson, TN. Joy was a world traveler who enjoyed reading, handwork and developed close relationships with many friends over her lifetime.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Vola Cook Flowers and Roy Clayton Flowers; husband, Dr. William King Nichol; son-in-law, Arnold H. Pittman.
She is survived by her four children, Deborah Pittman of Collierville, TN; Nancy Wood (Matthew) of Bristol, TN; Jackie Federico (David) of New Orleans, LA and Roy Nichol (Laura) of Houston, TX; brother RC Flowers of Nashville; grandchildren Amy Hodshon (Simon), Michael Federico (Joelle), Matthew Wood (Lindsay), Meghan Giordano (Chris), and Joelle Pittman Elliott (Evan); great-grandchildren Raylan, Charlie, Elise, Ellis, Ellie, Henry, Isabelle, Hadley, Lochlan and Grant.
Visitation with the family will take place at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home in Donelson, followed immediately by Funeral services at 10:00 a.m. The family will hold a private graveside ceremony at Mt. Olivet Cemetery afterwards. The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Lori Hiter and Faye Ford who provided years of loving aid and attention to Joy; also Maggie Manley, Janet Brown, Esther Eriamiatoe and Alive Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Joy Nichol.
