He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh White Poag and Maxie Lee Bishop Poag. Also by his loving wife of 62 years, Peggy Weatherford Poag; brothers, Charles Hugh Poag, Dalcomb Fred Poag and sister, Sarah Cannon.
He is survived by sons, Mark Poag (Carrie) and Jim Poag (Michelle); seven grandchildren, Kelly Stanley (Gregg), Joe, Matt (Ann-Haley), David (Carianne), Nicole, Jacob and Charles Poag; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dottie Poag and many nieces and nephews.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Joe was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He received a BS degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee. He began his career working with TN Farmers Co-Op and The Mead Corporation. Joe joined the Ozburn-Hessey Company in 1968 where he worked until retirement. After serving in many officer positions, he became Owner/President in 1985.
Retirement years included managing a cattle farm in Culleoka, TN with the help of his Border Collies. Joe was an active member of Crievewood United Methodist Church and a member of the Builders Sunday School class. He enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool at The Martin Center and was a fan of many sports.
Celebration of Life Service will be at one o’clock in the afternoon, Woodlawn‘s Dignity Hall on Friday, April 17, 2015. Gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, April 16, 2015 from four o‘ clock to seven o‘ clock in the evening at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and again on Friday, April 17, 2015 from noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to Crievewood United Methodist Church.
