was born on June 15th 1939 and died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tn. following a lingering illness.
A true gentleman and friend to everyone he knew. He was a wonderful husband, neighbor, friend, parent, and teacher. He was a teacher and administrator in Metro Nashville Schools. He served at Antioch High School, Overton High, East High, Donelson Jr. High and Middle School, and Wright Middle School.
He was a graduate of East High School and George Peabody College. After his retirement from Metro Schools , he joined the Nashville Sheriff's Dept. He designed, organized and supervised a GED program so the inmates could receive their High School Diplomas. Retiring from the Sheriff's Dept after 20 years, he then was called back to teach classes in the GED program.
He was a loyal member and officer at the Nashville Elks Lodge, Nashville Lions Club, Nashville Serra Club, American Legion SAL at Post 88, The Nashville University Club, and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Al Menah Shriners, the Brentwood Golf Group, and past captain of the Oriental Band. He was a member of John B Garrett Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, and the Nashville Commandery #1.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sterling Thomas and Pearl Ruth Mayberry Thompson. two brothers George Robert and Thomas Sterling Thompson, Beloved pets Bam Bam, Caggles, and Muffy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Wood Thompson, one daughter Holly Sault, 3 Grandchildren, Victoria Furr, Colin Douglas, Craig Douglas and "Cousin-in-law" Betty Marina. He is also survived by special beloved "baby", Pebbles.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, 11/4/ 18, at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Thompson Lane. There will be a Vigil service at 5:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Christ the King Catholic Church on 3001 Belmont Blvd, Nashville. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery followed by a reception.
The imprint Jim had on so many people will never be surpassed by another. He will be missed.
