James William Burton II (Jim), 78, of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away on Nov 12, 2024 after a lengthy and courageous 11 year battle with ALS. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Bondurant Burton & Virginia Lamm Burton and his wife, Ann (Wheeler) Burton, who he faithfully loved and cared for during her battle with cancer. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Linda (Bradshaw) Burton of the past 21 years; his children Craig Burton (Megan), Chris Burton (Jamie), and Amy Klinefelter (Chris); his step-daughter Emily Drummond (Brandon); his grandchildren Karina, Ellie, Grace, Caleb, Harper, Evie, Annie, Ty, Olivia, Wade, Emma, Nathan and Bennett; his three siblings Elizabeth Waggoner (Pat), Mary Goodin (Bill), and Walter Burton (Heidi); and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Jim was born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 20, 1946, graduating from James Overton High School in 1964 and Abilene Christian University in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration. Jim was an Eagle Scout and served in the Army National Guard, after which he spent his 46 year career in the financial services industry serving in various positions nationally until his retirement in 2014. Jim was a devoted follower of Christ, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He sought Christ daily and was a loyal friend to all he knew. He was a longtime member of Christ Presbyterian Church with a heart for missions, including working extensively with Radooga ministries in Ukraine and Missions Development International. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and internationally, and was a voracious reader. He loved Vandy sports and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, but his greatest devotion was to his family and friends. Jim’s favorite days were those surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Throughout his battle with ALS, Jim never complained and was always grateful for each and every day. He would say daily, “I am a most fortunate man.” His family is deeply thankful for the exceptional care he received over the past 11 years from the Murfreesboro VA and the Vanderbilt ALS Clinic, as well as the compassionate support provided more recently by Amada Senior Care and their dedicated team of caregivers.
Visitation will be held on November 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church Nashville (2323 Old Hickory Blvd) with a Memorial Service to held afterward at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in Jim’s honor to Radooga USA, (29 Vinings Trace, Newnan, Ga 30265) Missions Development International, (326 21st Ave. N, Suite 203, Nashville, Tn. 37203) the ALS Association or Christ Presbyterian Church.
