Nashville, TN, surrounded by family.
Hank was a husband, father and grandfather. During his 84 years of life, he helped kids build pinewood
derby cars in his spare time for Awanas, planted work co-op gardens, helped shape a grass roots
community church, guided community homeowner organizations - but most important - he built a
strong, loving family. He was a man of intelligence, purpose, love of family and was admired by all that
knew him. His quick wit and precise memory was legendary and he will be missed by so many.
Born in Oklahoma City, and an OU fan through and through, Hank spent his early childhood there
before moving with his family to Memphis, Tennessee. Following high school, Hank received a Navy
ROTC scholarship and chose to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan.
Transferring after his freshman year to the University of Oklahoma, Hank excelled in his studies and
gained membership to Mensa and Alpha Chi Sigma (a national honorary fraternity for chemical
engineers and chemists) of which he was the president his senior year. His greatest accomplishments in
college were graduating with a 4.0 GPA in his major and winning the Monsanto Chemical Engineering
Scholar of the Year fellowship.
Hank set his sights on a career with Exxon (Enjay in those days) but first had to satisfy his three year
commitment to the US Navy. Hank was stationed in San Diego and spent his three years as a radio
communications officer aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena. After his commitment to the Navy, Hank
worked in sales for Exxon beginning in Michigan where he secured the first automotive application of
Exxon Vistalon rubber for the 1965 Ford Galaxie. After 17 years in sales and travel, Hank finally
secured a desk job as Administrative Services Manager before winding down his 34 year career in
Atascocita (Humble), Texas. During retirement, Hank enjoyed vacationing with his grandchildren,
gardening, fishing, restoring antique cars, OU football and reading, always reading.
Hank is survived by his wife, Jane, of 56 years, his children David (Julie), Michelle (Terry), Janet
(Adam), daughter-in-law Michelle and grandchildren Ashley (Jay), Carrie, Erin, Preston, Kathryn,
Becca, Kendal, Campbell, Alexandra, Thomas and Mark, as well as, his brother Charles (Iris).
Hank was preceded in death by his parents Marge and Leon Luschen, his brother Bob and his son T.J.
