Gloria Jean Knight, age 75, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022. She was born June 14, 1947, in McEwen, Tennessee to the late, James B. Florence and Rebecca Stanford Florence. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca F. Tarkington.
She is survived by her husband, Roger D. Knight; nephew, Bruce (Jaclyn) Tarkington and sons, Samuel and Joseph; several cousins, including a special cousin, Jim (Susan) Tarpy; loving in-laws, Libby Nash (Ray) and Trudi Fontenot (Dr. Philip).
Jean was a 1965 graduate of McEwen TN High School where she was a member of the Beta Club and Marching Band. She was a 1971 graduate of Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. In 1970, she married the love of her life, Roger. Jean taught secretarial subjects at the Falls Business College. She later took a position at the Nashville Chapter of the American Red Cross, rising through the ranks and retiring after 26 years, as the Administrative Assistant to the General Manager.
Jean enjoyed shopping and travelling, especially Gatlinburg and Williamsburg, VA. Jean and Roger, enjoyed having dogs, having five over the years, including currently, Tootsie. Jean was a member of the West Meade Fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean's honor to Alive Hospice, St. Thomas Foundation and to West Meade Fellowship, 277 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37221.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from one until two o'clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at two o'clock in the afternoon in Dignity Hall. Entombment to follow in Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum. Rev. Denny Shepard will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
