Naples - Gladys S. Marks, age 95, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021. She was born on September 30, 1925, in Jacksonville, FL, to the late Jake Russell Smith and Emma Lucinda (Pickett) Smith. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William Howard Marks, Sr.; her son, Robert Matthew Marks, II; and siblings, Russell Edwin Smith and James Ronald Smith.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Diane (Glenn) Bridges; Son, William Howard (Patty) Marks, Jr.; son, Timothy Edwin (Becky) Marks; and daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Toby) Lee; 20 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Karen Marks; sisters-in-law, Jean Smith and Sue Smith and niece, Donna Smith Underwood.
Following graduation from Gainesville High School, in Gainesville, FL and attending Trevecca Nazarene University, Nashville, TN, Gladys married Howard Marks on June 18, 1950 and celebrated 69 years of marriage on June 18, 2019. She enjoyed her role as homemaker, caring for their 5 children and loving on her 20 grandchildren.
Gladys was actively involved in The Church of the Nazarene throughout her life in Florida, Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee and back to Florida. She was invested in the lives of her family and many friends throughout the years as she strove to live out her faith in Jesus Christ. She will long be remembered for her hospitality and “oatmeal squares”!
Final arrangements are being made through Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, Nashville, TN. There will be a Family gathering in Nashville to celebrate the life of Gladys, with interment following.
