Frank Henry Becker Sr. “Nicky” passed away peacefully on February 4, 2020, in Nashville, at the age of 90. He enjoyed a long and blessed life. Frank was born July 2, 1929 to Frank Anderson and Louise (Niederhauser) Becker, founders of Nashville’s iconic Becker’s Bakery on 12th Avenue. Frank started working at the Bakery when he was 8 years old, and eventually owned the business. He considered it an honor and a privilege to be a part of so many Nashville traditions and celebrations.
Frank was both a gentleman and a gentle man. He is remembered for his kindness and generosity, dry wit, ever-present whistling, and his deep and abiding love for his childhood sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Jane (Suter) Becker.
A lifelong member of First United Church, UCC, Frank served as Deacon, Elder, and Head Usher for more than 50 years. Frank was a 32nd degree Mason and 50+ year member of Claiborne Lodge no. 293, F&AM; a lifelong member of Nashville Scottish Rite, Al Menah Shriners, Nashville-Franklin Elks Lodge #72, and The Swiss Society of Nashville.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas Anderson Becker, he is survived by his loving wife Jane; children: Cheryl Becker Leach, Denise (Deanna Scales) Becker, and Frank Henry (Bethe) Becker Jr.; grandchildren: Jonathan Leach Becker, Stephanie Leach Payne, Caleb Scales, Emily Becker and Frank Henry Becker III “Hank”; great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Noah Scales; sister Donna Holland Nagelsen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.
Active Pallbearers: Tommy Becker Jr., Gary Brown, George Dunbar Jr., Paul Ridge, Jonathan Becker, Caleb Scales, and Hank Becker. Honorary Pall Bearers: Albert Becker, Raymond Becker, Victor Muller, Franklin Hood, Chris Holland, Mike Fulford, Jeff Pement, Eric Steidl, Gordon Dahl, Marc Hines, Randy Rychen, Donnie Rychen, and Larry Rychen.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 8th, 11:30 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Thompson Lane. Visitation, Friday, February 7th, 4-8 pm; Masonic service at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the charity of your choice.
