Francis Benton Neiswender

He is survived by his wife Carroll M. Young, his daughter Liza Bach, daughter Catherine Llamas, brother John Neiswender , Sykes Cargile , James Cargile, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and loving family pets, Frances, Charli and Sandi.

He was preceded in death by his parents Francis B. and Ruth Blanchard Neiswender , daughter Susan, brother Kenneth and sister Diana.

Frank was born and grew up in Topeka, Kansas. He served as a Sargent in Europe with Patton and Bradley in the 275th INF during WWII. After discharge, he attended Washburn University in Topeka where he worked under Dr. Karl Menninger. He then earned his Master’s degree in Psychiatric Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. He went back into the service during the Korean Conflict as a commissioned officer under the Surgeon General at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and later at Ft. Monmouth, N.J.

In 1956 he accepted an appointment at the U.T. School of Social Work in Nashville. He next joined Dr. James Crecraft in establishing The Fairfax Academy, a school for mentally disturbed children. He also practiced as a family therapist at the Middle Tennessee Psychiatric Clinic providing therapy for individuals, couples and families.

Mr. Neiswender said, while growing up and attending school, he had tried many types of work, and found that working with people was the most interesting and rewarding.

Burial services will be held Wednesday, June 17th at 11:00 am. at Christ Church Cathedral , 900 Broadway in Nashville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Alive Hospice and the Nashville Humane Society, or charity of your choice.
