Evelyn Elizabeth Smith

Evelyn Elizabeth Smith, age 91, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022. She was born on July 29, 1931, in Nashville, TN to her parents Vernon Virgle and Verna Pauline Bentley Hines who predeceases her. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of the area.

Evelyn and her husband Robert W Sr. were the owners of Donelson Roofing Company which was founded in 1957 and was sold in 2019. Evelyn attended Lakewood Baptist Church and was an original member of Glencliff Presbyterian Church. Evelyn led an active life with some of her favorite things to do were hiking, yoga, gardening and flowers, shopping and especially family get togethers and girl sleepovers. She was an inspiration to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert W. Smith Sr who passed in 2007, by her son Carl B. Smith who passed in 2011, by her brothers Carl and Vernon Hines, and by her brothers in law Bill Brown and Bill Gilbert.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Robert W. (Janice) Smith Jr., Debbie Ann (Gary) Boywitt, Terry Patton, Carolyn D. (Larry) Scheib, Danny L. (Debbie) Smith and Sherry Lynn (Paul) Williams, by her sisters in law Shirley Hines and Gloria Hines, by her sisters Sue (Richard) Setliff, Janie Brown, Patricia (Tom) Orman and Elaine Gilbert. She has 14 grandchildren 3 of which are deceased, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation for Evelyn will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home, 429 Donelson Pike, Nashville, TN 37214 and again on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with her funeral service at 11:00 AM in the chapel. Burial will be in Hermitage Memorial Gardens, Old Hickory, TN.
