Edward Jerome Crutchfield, 56, passed away at his home in Lebanon, TN on Christmas Eve day December 24, 2014 with family and friends at his bedside. A courageous battle with cancer was fought to the very end with strength, determination, and grace.
Born August 19, 1958, Ed went on to a proud career in the United States Air Force, commencing in 1977 and retiring as TSgt in 1994. He later continued to serve his country as a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Professional for 12 years, rising through the ranks to become a Scheduling Operations Officer for the State of TN. Ed was a long time member of the Music City Chapter of the Harley Owners Group. He enjoyed miles, smiles, and deep camaraderie with his fellow riders. He will be remembered as a man who conquered many an obstacle, had a brave and generous heart, and earned the love and respect of friends and family alike.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; father Richard and stepmother Julie Crutchfield of Navarre, FL; mother Betty and stepfather Tom Grizzle of Nashville, TN; daughter Jessica Crutchfield of Nashville, TN; brothers Christopher Crutchfield and wife Corrie of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Jayson Crutchfield and wife Angelica of Fort Walton Beach, FL; stepbrother Anthony Palladini of Navarre, FL; and stepsisters Julie Haley and husband Robert of Mount Juliet, TN and Rebekah Phillips and husband Jason of Mount Juliet, TN. Edward adored his two beautiful grandchildren, Chloe Searcy and Dale Luther, Jr.
Per his request, services will be forgone. A Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s name to the MCC HOG Charities, c/o Betsy Boswell, 401 Fesslers Lane, Nashville, TN 37210. He was very active in and honored to be a part of the motorcycle Chapter’s efforts to help those in need.
One of Ed’s favorite quotes read: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ‘WOW – what a ride.’” Job well done, Crutch!
