Earl Dennis, age 88, of Nashville, TN passed away August 18, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pearl Robinson Dennis, his daughter Lydia Cobb (Mark), his brother, Bill Dennis (Nancy) and nieces and nephews. After graduating from Central High School in Columbia, TN he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and worked in this field for 9 years. He then entered the field of education and earned a doctorate in Mathematics from George Peabody College for Teachers. He served at Lipscomb University for 32 years, teaching in the department of Mathematics and spending 10 years as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. He was a long time member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ where he frequently taught adult Bible classes. His life of service was generously given to everyone he knew. He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle man.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Crieve Hall Church of Christ on Saturday, August 23rd at eleven o’clock with visitation one-half hour before the service. Family and friends may also visit at the church on Friday, August 22nd from five o’clock until eight o’clock.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Earl Dennis Mathematics Research Fund at Lipscomb University or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Woodcrest Health Center and Blakeford at Home for their compassionate care during his final months.
