Sister/Nell,
Donna, Nell, Sissie, Sister, Mrs. Martin, Mom, Miss Nell, Sis, Granny, Mrs. "Nail", My Ray of Sunshine and even Lucy all have a meaning to us. That meaning - a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother and a friend.
Sister raised, played with, took care of, and loved more than one could imagine. She had a shoulder to cry on, gave a hand when needed, and even taught us a few things. Patience, understanding, compassion are only the beginning.
Adventurous, she could handle the longest of trips, traveling by bus or car, not knowing what the next stop would bring or which direction to go. Even 36 hours of nonstop shopping with tons of giggles, bursts of laughter, and sighs of relief for that special present for the grand babies was nothing for her.
Time was in excess, taking it for everyone that needed. Pausing for moment to take it in was a specialty, with a gift to work a camera, documenting the most special moments for everyone to enjoy, Sister shares with us her life, from births, weddings, graduations, school events and even a simple flower. As a fund-raiser extraordinaire, she could raise money for anyone or anything at the drop of a hat. Spending countless hour, creating games and gathering prizes, to balancing books.
And that, everyone, is Sister/Nell.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years Neal Martin; daughter Cassie Martin; son David (Jonna) Martin; parents George and Ernestine Ward Brummett Sr.; grandchildren Olivia, Sean, and Julia Martin; sister Kay (Terry) Duty; brother George Brummett Jr., Danny Brummett, Milton (Karen) Brummett and Sam Brummett; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 27, 2011 in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn's Cross Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roy Waldron Elementary School in La Vergne, TN; or Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort 410 Allied Drive, Nashville, TN 37211.
Family and friends will gather Sunday June 26, 2011 from 2:00 until 8:00 o’clock to remember Mrs. Martin at WOODLAWN-ROESCH-PATTON FUNERAL HOME 660 Thompson Lane Nashville, TN 37204 (615) 383-4754.
