Beverly was born on October 15, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to Ross and Freda Gill. In 1952, she was baptized by her brother-in-law in a church camp lake beginning her continued walk with our Lord. Formerly married to Robert Robinson, Sr., she raised two sons, Robert, Jr. and Christopher, and two daughters, Julia and Laurie.
Loving our Lord with all she was and loving others as herself, Beverly touched innumerable people. She was a founding member of Lakeshore Christian Church, and through her life she physically and spiritually supported many young families. Apart from her own family, she became “Nanny” to many children, now adults with their own families, who still call her the same.
In 1975, she successfully started Homestyle Bakery in Nashville, Tennessee. Beverly gracefully bowed out of the Tennessee State Fair pie contests after her fudge pies won blue ribbons for three consecutive years. The bakery remains in the family and flourishes to this day under the guidance of her granddaughter.
Beverly’s home was a destination stop during all the holidays. She would convert both the inside and outside of her home with the sounds and sights of the seasons, much to the delight of children and adults who were entranced by her efforts. She hosted after-church dinners in her home followed by NASCAR (racing), the Titans (football), or the Predators (hockey) but, alas, never golf to the disappointment of a few.
Beverly had a passion for her gardens and yard ornaments to the extent that her husband, Mike, instituted a “one in, two out” policy. Anyone wishing to have one of her yard decorations should be aware that there is a fifty item per person per day limit. Her banana trees were removed to a shed every winter and replanted every spring. They are now over forty years old. Such caring of her plants is a reflection of the care she gave to all the children of our Lord.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Ross, her mother, Freda, sisters, Gladys, Norma Jean, and Eleanor, and infant granddaughter, Anastasia Nicole. She is survived by her husband, Michael Edwards, her four children, Robert (Taylor), Christopher (Jeannie), Julia (Roger), Laurie (Tony), her sisters, Sharon (Bob) and Judy (Dick), 17 grandblessings, 21 great-grandblessings, and one formerly stray cat, BabyGirl.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Lakeshore Christian Church, 5434 Bell Forge Lane East, Antioch, TN 37013. Visitation at the church begins at 10 o’clock with the service beginning at 12 o’clock. A private graveside ceremony follows. Flowers may be sent to the church.
Well done, good and faithful servant. She was truly a handmaiden of God.
