Lindsay P. Hancock, 83, of Hudson, NH passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua. He was born November 14, 1928 in Greensboro, N.C., son of the late William Scarboro and Nell (Price) Hancock. Mr. Hancock served with the U.S. Navy from 1945-1948 as an Electricians Mate aboard the U.S.S. Missouri and served as the personal projectionist for President Truman and his family while they were aboard ship.
Following his release from the Navy, Mr. Hancock went to work for Sears & Roebuck, Co., eventually working his way up to being a Group Manager for the company during his 37 years of employment.
Mr. Hancock was also very civic minded, being very active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the Washington, DC area while working for Sears. He received an invitation from President Kennedy to attend a seminar group at the White House that was to assist handicapped children.
With a transfer to Southern NH, Mr. Hancock was a resident of Hudson for the past 35 years, coming from Warwick, RI. Upon his retirement he became a very active member in the Hudson Lions Club, receiving the Progressive Melvin Jones Award, the Granite State Award and various other certificates of appreciation. He also served as Lions Club Treasurer during his 26 years of membership.
Mr. Hancock was also an active member and former officer in the Main Street United Methodist Church, Nashua, NH. When his sons were young he helped coach their PAL little league teams. He truly enjoyed being with people.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years; Wanda Hancock of Hudson, two sons; Terry Hancock and his wife Cenith of Temecula, CA and Rick Hancock and his wife Jill of Nashua, a daughter; Cindy Lavoie and her husband Steve of Litchfield, NH, eight grandchildren; Megan and Katelyn Hancock, William Hinkle and his wife Jennifer, Douglas Hancock, Andy, Amy, David and Eric Lavoie and also by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Hancock at 11:00am on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the Main St. United Methodist Church, 154 Main St., Nashua, NH 03060. The family will greet friends in the church on Saturday from 10:30am until the 11:00am service. The Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley St., Nashua is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in his memory to either the Hudson Lions Club, P.O. Box 3, Hudson, NH 03051 or to the Main St., United Methodist Church.
