He was born on January 18, 1942 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Elmer and Dorothy Norris. Ted was an athlete in both high school and at Bowling Green State University - playing basketball and tennis - eventually teaching and coaching in both sports at the University of Rhode Island. Tennis is what brought him and his family to Naples. Many will remember him as the first director of tennis at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club, instrumental in creating a wonderful environment of fun for so many in Naples. Throughout his life he was a teacher and a coach in every sense of the words to all who knew him. After leaving Bath and Tennis, he began a successful career as a Realtor and developer in Park Shore, Pelican Bay and beyond. He met and married JoAnne Spencer, his perfect partner in all his adventures.
The past 20 years of retirement gave Ted the time to do the things he loved: spend time with family and friends, play tennis, fish, hunt, travel and cook. His discipline, sense of humor, ability to make friends and keep them, his deep love of others, especially family, and his knowledge and curiosity about the natural world; all of these attributes are cherished by his family and friends. A live well-lived. He will be missed by so many.
He is survived by his wife JoAnne Spencer, daughters Kristin Cassidy (Scott Nobles) and Marcy Hesseling (Ryan), step-son Eric Spencer, sister Nancy Eberhardt (Eric), brother Dan Norris (Kathy), granddaughter Wylie Cassidy and many nieces and nephews. There will be a private service for the family.
Think where man’s glory most begins and ends…
And say my glory was that I had such friends.
