Years ago, my brother and I were able to visit the Fernandos, and spend time with Michael. Steve texted me later that Michael told him his heart hurt, because my brother and I had left. I've often thought of that comment, one made by a child, but made by someone who loved fully with a purity of feeling. Years later, Steve would text me, "So you know about Michael then," before he went on to talk with me about Michael's diagnosis and prognosis. I was blessed to be able to see Michael before he passed, but, more so, I was blessed to have known Michael, as were we all. We were all blessed to have the time that we did. In knowing him, our lives were fuller. Although no words can adequately describe Michael's tragic passing or bring any solace to those who now mourn him, comfort can hopefully be found in knowing that our lives would have been so much more empty were it not for Michael, the blessing all of us received. 

  I never got to meet him but had been praying for you and your family.  Since our 8 year old granddaughter had cancer,  I can relate to the anxiety you experienced. Now I am praying for you as you remember him and await the time when you see him again in Heaven.

The words that best describe Michael are loving and kind.  Michael never arrived at my door without a flower and a smile for each visit.  He never left without a hug or kiss for Grandpa and Grandma and a "see you later alligator".  He loved crab legs dipped in butter, shrimp scampi, asparagus, and buttery popcorn. He was my assistant chef every Sunday making Greek salad dressing for dinner. On a visit to the Wonder Gardens he spied a boy looking at himself and Annabelle feeding the birds.  The boy had no bird food.  Michael took the bag to the little boy and allowed him to fill his hands.  Bird seed, candy bars, and toys were all opportunities to share.  He loved books and stories.  One of my favorite memories is Michael clearing off a display at a Disney shop, sitting down, and reading a Winnie the Pooh book.  During his last few months, I received comfort reading stories to him.

You left us too soon, Michael.  Know that the love we shared will live in my heart forever.

Our kids met Michael at Oak Haven Montessori pre school.  Once entering the toddler classroom my son Ryan became Michael's shadow. He loved playing dinosaurs and running outside on "the hill" with him.  Michael would always show his love for animals and kind nature. His sister would also bring biggest smiles.   I will miss Michael's smile and curiosity.  Also, I will never forget his love (and Steve's 😉) for catching those Pokémon!!!!  The stars are shining brighter with him smiling down. Each and every time I clean and organize my classroom library I will always think of Michael. As soon as he entered my room he would make a beeline over to our books. He wouldn’t even pause to take off his backpack. He would leave piles of books that he read on the bench or floor and would never put them away. At the time I would get frustrated with him for not cleaning up after himself, but after a while I didn’t even care. He was doing what he loved to do. Read books.  God bless you Michael, I know that Heaven must have an endless supply of good books for you to read.
