Mary was born March 14, 1930, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Joseph and Margaret Bonness. She attended St. Sebastian Grade School, Holy Angels High School, Mount Mary College and Layton School of Art. Mary worked as an occupational therapist at the Curative Workshop in Milwaukee before marrying Sylvester “Syl” Ludington in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 10, 1955.
Mary and Syl were residents of Elm Grove, Wisconsin until they moved to Naples, Florida in 1974. Mary was an active member of the Naples Ikebana Chapter, serving as president from 2002 – 2004. She was a founding member and vice-president of the Naples Tennis Club, a long-term volunteer of the Naples Botanical Gardens and a member of St. William Church. She will be remembered for her love of family, her kindness to others, her fierce independence, indomitable spirit and her loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. Mary’s lifelong passion for art was expressed through fiber arts, ceramics, bronze sculpture, oil and watercolor painting and in her beautiful garden – an oasis filled with exotic plants, finches and a koi pond.
