Beloved husband of the late Maureen McCabe (nee Stark) for 44 years. Mark and Maureen grew up in Riverhead, NY, and married there in 1954. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mark was married for 20 years to Molly McCabe (nee McGraw McGregor). She preceded him in death in 2020.
Loving father of Deborah (Ed) McCabe of Chicago, IL, Michael (Lori) McCabe of San Felipe, Baja California, Deirdre McCabe of Wellington, CO Sheila (Tim) Dunn of Lake Bluff, IL and Paul (Kelly) McCabe of Lake Forest, IL. Proud grandfather of Maura McCabe, Miles (Beth) and Erin McCabe, Bryan (Suzanne) Lamblin and Jennifer (Kevin) Becker, Mark and Lauren Dunn and John and Katharine McCabe. Great grandfather to Bryden, Gavin, Ella and Lucy. Cherished brother to Thomas (Maureen) McCabe, Isabelle (Dale) Richardson, and Patricia (John) Mensch. Brother in law to the honorable Thomas (Jane) Stark, Richard (Ann) Stark, and William (Marianne) Stark. “Uncle Mark” to many nieces and nephews.
Mark lived a life committed to his faith, family and service. He is a native of Riverhead, NY, and graduated from LaSalle Military Academy (Oakdale, NY) in 1949. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1954. Mark was hired by General Motors Steering Gear Division as a college graduate in training in 1954. Soon after GM hired Mark, he went to serve his country in Germany in the U.S. Army, and achieved the rank of captain by 1956. He returned to General Motors and settled in Saginaw, Michigan. Over the next three decades he rose through the ranks holding various leadership positions leading to General Manager in 1984. In 1988 Mark became President of General Motors Europe in Paris, France. He and Maureen lived for three years in Paris . Mark retired as an Executive Vice President of General Motors Corporation.
He was an active community leader serving on the boards of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, Saginaw County United Way, and Saginaw Valley State University.
Mark will be remembered for his kind heart, sharp mind, unparalleled sense of humor and quick wit. He will be deeply missed by his family. He cherished his family, his faith and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
A service will be held in Naples, Florida on Tuesday, April 23 at 2 PM Hodges Funeral Home (Naples Memorial Garden) A remembrance will be held on a date to be determined.
