John (Jack) F. Oliver passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9th at his home in Aston Gardens Way in Naples, Florida. He was born in 1930 in Hartford, CT to Francis (Twisty) and Blanch (Feeney) Oliver. He graduated from Bulkeley High School along with his future bride-Joan Mayeda. He spent two years in the army receiving an honorable discharge. Thereafter, he began his career in law enforcement, retiring from the Hartford, CT police department with the rank of Captain. He spent the next ten years as Bristol, CT Chief of Police. He attended the University of Hartford and graduated with a Masters (MPA) degree in Public Administration.
Jack and Joan enjoyed ballroom dancing, having been very active in ballroom dancing community in both Connecticut and Naples, Fl., where they belonged to the Naples Ballroom Dance Club for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda, who died in 1948, and brothers Charles, Robert, and Richard.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Joan, sons John, Jr and James, both from Connecticut, and daughter Jean Alessandro (Robert) in Massachuetts; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Jack, and Julitta Oliver and Robert and Jenna Alessandro, along with great-grandchildren, Lincoln & Mila Oliver. He also leaves two sisters; Joanne Arsenault and Maureen Oliver and a brother, Mark Oliver.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution be sent to their favorite charity.
