John was born in Co. Kerry, Ireland to Jeremiah and Norah Dee on April 22, 1927. He went to school at Rockwell College in Ireland, and upon graduation taught at a boys school in Bristol, England. He immigrated to the United States in 1950. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the bronze star. He attended night school at City College in New York to obtain his business degree. He worked as an accountant and then district manager for UPS for 30 years, which brought him across midwestern America to cities such as Cleveland, OH, St. Louis, MO, Sioux Falls, SD, Minneapolis, MN, East Lansing, MI, and then back east to Greenwich, CT. He married Nancy Dee (Cooper) on May 13, 1978 in Sausalito, CA. He was an active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples since its inception and a staunch supporter of Catholic education, particularly at the University of Notre Dame. His philanthropy knew no bounds, contributing generously to organizations locally and nationally that work for cancer research, veterans care, poverty reduction, Catholic causes, and education.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his siblings Paud, Jerome, Mary Anne (Sr. Patricia), Kathy Mai, Sally, and Tommy.
John is survived by his daughter, Shauna Dee-Lucca, his brother George, and his sister Teasie (Sr. Romanus).
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 12pm on Saturday, June 29 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples, FL. Arrangements are by Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
