Fermin was born in Palma Soriano to Fermin Diaz & Edelmira Diaz on February 13, 1954. He attended Naples High School. Fermin married his high school sweetheart Maribel on May 27, 1978 in Naples, FL. He graduated from the University of South Florida College of Engineering. He worked for 44 consecutive years as a Professional Civil Engineer for Naples based WilsonMiller, Inc. (COO/President) & later Stantec Consulting Group (Vice President) after acquisition. Fermin was involved in numerous professional groups: FICE (Past President), FES (Fellow), ACEC, Collier Education Foundation, Rotary Club, USF College of Engineering Advisory Board Member, and most recently at the Naples Botanical Garden where he held the position of officer for architectural/engineering services.
He has won many accolades over his long career including but not limited to: The Governor A.W. Gilchrist Award that is presented annually to a single member of the engineering profession who exemplifies the spirit and public service that betters humankind, and brings honor to the engineering profession. He was a founding member and 1st class alumni of the Florida Leadership Institute Program. In his free time he loved to invent. He holds two fishing equipment registered patents and was very proud of his VertiTackle system.
Fermin is preceded in death by his father Fermin Diaz (2006).
Fermin is survived by his Mother: Edelmira Diaz, Brother: Carlos Diaz and wife Mary Diaz, Wife: Maribel Diaz, Son: David and fiancé Patricia Machado, Son: Daniel and spouse Yoshiee Diaz, and two Grandchildren Eva & Noah.
A visitation for Fermin will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home At Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, Florida 34108.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 5225 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples, FL 34116.
A burial will occur Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, Florida 34108.
A reception will follow Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, Florida 34108.
