I started working for Wilson Miller in 1987 until 1995. I remember how friendly and helpful Fermin was to all new employees.  Sincere condolences to his family.

He set the standard of professionalism and built WilsonMiller with the support of others into a world class development design engineering company. 
He loved his family and the church and was very proud to be a citizen of this country.

Fermin was laid to rest on his birthday. Fermin would want us to focus not on our sorrow of his passing but in memory of the profound way that he lived his life with passion and made all of us better people. Despite the huge void he leaves in our hearts, when I think of Fermin, I can’t help but smile at the joy he brought despite my sadness.
My life has been blessed because Fermin has been my friend, partner and brother for 46 years, starting when we were both new hires at Wilson Miller Barton Soll and Peek. Our lives have been intertwined ever since, and there are no words that can do justice to the profound impact he has had on my life. For that love and friendship, Fermin, thank you.
A measure of greatness is how many lives you touch and make better. Leadership takes many forms. With Fermin, it was a truly rare combination of kindness, wisdom, empathy and truly caring about each individual person. Fermin’s role at work carried enormous responsibility as he was a leader for literally thousands of people across his career. He led us through times of success, growth, and crisis,  always with skill, wisdom and always with passion and respect. Fermin did what he said he would do, every time, truly a man of his word. He was universally admired and loved.
Passion is a trait that permeated Fermin ‘s life, passion for his profession, his team, his community, his friends, and most of all his families. I say families because Fermin had many family circles -    Mari, Edie, Carlos, Mary, David, Danny, Yoshiee, Eva , Noah, aunts, uncles cousins and also his Family at WilsonMiller, Stantec and the many people in our community and beyond whose lives he touched.
Dear Fermin, we will always carry you in our hearts.

I have so many wonderful memories about Fermin. Am grateful for the times we shared. We went on a cruise which stopped in Key West, one of his favorite fishing places. I had planned the day and he joined no questions asked.  Once we were in the middle of the ocean I told him the itinerary, which included parasailing, jet skiing, plank diving, he just smiled and with Mary by his side, partook on every activity. By the next port he was asking for more. 
We love you, forever in our memories.

Mr. Diaz you are truly the definition of what every man should strive to be. Thank you so much for opening your home and family to me when Danny and I first became friends. You always made me feel like apart of your family. You are such an amazing man and I can’t describe how much I will miss you.  I promise to always make you proud.

As evidenced by the tremendous responses on this forum, Fermin was many things to many people.  To me he was a great friend, co-worker, and fellow partner at WM.  He was my direct report, but I always felt like I worked WITH him and not for him.  Did anyone else enjoy  hearing his laugh?
"Breakfast with Fermin" on Fridays meant the end of your time with the firm.  I had lunch with Fermin 30 years ago this August to sadly announce my goodbye.  Respectfully, I wanted him to be the first to know.  That was harder for me to do than I thought.  We did converse from time to time and  we did see each other over the ensuing years.
Today, I say farewell to Fermin for the second time.   This time it is significantly more difficult for all of us that are left behind.  However, this time I'm confident I will see Fermin again.

Fermin, you are definitely going to be missed. When I was 17 years of age, I always looked up to Fermin as my role model. Even though he was only 4 years older, I wanted to be like him. He was intelligent, a very kind person, spoke very softly; a rare characteristic in a Cuban. But above all, he could teach us all a lesson about real love. Every Friday night, him, his brother and I would hang out at Big Daddy and he only had one woman in his mind, that woman later became his wife.  For that reason alone, I think he lived a full life. Rest in peace and we Thank God for having you.

Fermin was my greatest mentor, advocate and leader. From the moment we met we connected. I admired his ability to bring people together, his passion for always doing what is right and not compromising. His pure heart and soft side were very evident even when he would want to hide it, he used to call himself the "ferminator" but we all knew that Fermin was nothing but heart. 
I am grateful to have had him the time that I did. I know that I am the person I am today thanks to him. 
It is hard to comprehend that he is no longer a call or text away. I think about him every day and will remember him forever.

My condolences to all of Fermin’s family and loved ones, he was one of the great ones!  I met Fermin as the acquisition leader for Stantec during the WilsonMiller acquisition.  I found him to be passionate and fair, but also warm and friendly.  I enjoyed our work together, and our friendship, immensely!  I smiled inside when I saw the photo of him.  I think the photo captured his presence well, and knowing him brought a big smile to my face.  I will miss him!  Jeff Lloyd

Fermín was an amazing individual. He was a natural and compassionate leader full of life and love. He always strove to unite everyone and always wanted the best for all. He was a friend and a mentor and never turned me down when I needed an ear, a shoulder or some guidance. I will never forget the impact he had on my life. 

You are loved and will be missed!

Fermin was a titan (a person of great strength, intellect and importance) of the engineering industry, but also a very caring and authentic person.  Glad to have known him and blessed to have been able to learn from his strong leadership, work ethic and sense of responsibility. It was always clear to me how deeply he cared for his family and the people he worked with.

Some of my favorite memories were fishing on the boat with Tio. He kept my love for fishing alive.

Fermin had such a positive impact on so many lives through his work and his leadership in the community. May his memory be a blessing to his family and to all of us who knew him. Thank you, Fermin for the example of virtue you set for us to follow.
