Betty Lou Barnes (Tyson) was the first baby born in the United States on January 1st, 1936, and passed away February 12th, 2024. She was loved by all family and friends. She grew up in Roselle Park N.J. and graduated Roselle Park High School in 1953. She attended Gettysburg College and Catherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She married Albert Barnes, her high school sweetheart in January 1956. She was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom for her two children and was very active in the community Methodist Church in Roselle Park and a leader of the Woman's Society Club. She was also a member of the American Contract Bridge League and was a silver life master. Betty Lou and Al raised their children in Cranford N.J. and spent summers in Normandy Beach where she enjoyed the beach and playing tennis. She was a member of the Normandy Beach Yacht Club and enjoyed boating. In 1998 they began wintering in Naples becoming full-time residents in 2018, where they made many new friends. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Marcella Tyson and her brother William C Tyson. She is survived by her husband Albert Barnes and her two Children David and his partner Carol, Marcie Brewster and her husband Richard, and her 5 grandchildren Cassidy and Sarah Barnes and Christopher, Michael and Thomas Brewster. Service will be held at Hodges Funeral Home on Immokalee in Naples FL on Thursday February 15th, 1:00 for the viewing and 2:00 for the service. Visitation will be held in New Jersey on Monday, February 19th, 10:00-11:00 with service at 11:00 at Gray Memorial Funeral Home in Cranford. Burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ.
