George Leonard Edgar Hanuse, “Chief,” was a caring father, brother, and friend. He left this world unexpectedly on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the age of 54.
George was born to Eliza Wilson and Harry Hanuse in Alert Bay, in January 1969. He spent the majority of his life living in the Greater Vancouver area. Although he enjoyed living in the city, he created many fond memories with his two children outdoors, especially on Storey’s Beach in Fort Rupert. Looking for sea shells, sea glass, interesting rocks, and exploring tide pools.
His self-proclaimed greatest achievement was being a father to his two loving children, George Hanuse Jr. and Desiree Hanuse. When he had time, he enjoyed drawing and carving, a passion he shared with his daughter. He was an avid lover of rock and heavy metal music, something he passed on to both his children. A few of his favourite bands were Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Cinderella, AC/DC, and Ozzy Osbourne.
George was never afraid to speak his mind and stand up for what he believed in. He protected those he cared about with a heart of gold and would go to the ends of the earth to ensure their happiness.
He is survived by his children, George Hanuse Jr. and Desiree Hanuse, his father Harry Hanuse, his ex partner (mother of his children) Michelle Barnes (nee Heebner), his siblings Rhonda, Harry, Patrick, Rena, Teresa, Lisa, his Uncle Al, his cousins (seen as brothers) Alfred Jr. and Victor, and countless other extended family and found family members. He is predeceased by his dear mother Eliza Wilson, and his loving partner Leslie Darnell.
His son and daughter request that you safely pour one out, preferably a Budweiser, and listen to “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” by Ozzy Osbourne. Loved by many he will be dearly missed.
George’s family will have a private viewing and later scatter his ashes in a private ceremony. In lieu of a traditional memorial service, George will be honoured with a beach-side celebration of life at Storey’s Beach, Port Hardy, at a later date.
