It is with great sadness the family is announcing the passing of Ellen Farquhar (nee Tchir) on December 28, 2021, suddenly and unexpectedly, at home in the arms of her loving husband of 64 years, Darryl.
Ellen was a wonderful person. Ellen was a Registered Nurse, an artist, a giving community member, a "Tuesday" hiker, an avid reader, a gardener and naturalist. Ellen and Darryl enjoyed many holidays together the last one being a trip to Scotland where they hiked for miles. Ellen had a great sense of humour and wit and loved stories, music, travel, the arts and poetry. She had many dear friends and touched many of our lives.
Ellen met husband Darryl as an RCAF Nursing Sister posted in Falconbridge, Ontario. It had been noticed that Darryl was not up to date with his vaccinations being afraid of needles, he was brought in for his shots where Ellen saw to it he got them anyway.
Ellen, the third of 6 children born on the family farm near Spedden, Alberta, was unafraid of hard work which lasted her lifetime. Her Ukrainian cooking was very much enjoyed especially her phyroi (perogies), sauerkraut, other dishes and baking.
She was predeceased by her parents Anna and Karp, sister Katherine, brother Gordon. She will be missed terribly by her husband Darryl, sons Darryl and David, daughter Megan, grandchildren Alexandra and Morgan and, sister Doris, Marie, and Bette, nieces and nephews.
A special thankyou to Beth and Jim, Kathy and Allison who have been caring and generous neighbours, to Diane and Dave, Grace, Marjorie, Sharon, Pat H, Malcolm and Joanne, Linda and John, some of her lifelong and dearest friends.
A Special Thankyou to the Cedar Fire Department for their exceptional service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to www.heartandstroke.ca or www.nanaimoartscouncil.ca
