With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our Mom, Nan, Gr. Nan and Gr. Gr. Nan.
Mom passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sept. 4th, a month after celebrating her 102nd birthday with her family. Moms whole world was her family. Before her passing, we were grateful to have had a few special days with her so all of her grandchildren and greats could come and visit with her.
She was born in the Bluenose Mountains outside of Vernon, B.C., and grew up in the town of Vernon. She met our Dad George when he came for Basic Training in Vernon in 1940. They married in Nanaimo in 1943, and they had 61 years together.
Mom was a fabulous cook. Our Sunday dinners were the best. She was a wonderful sewer and knitter and made the family many beautiful sweaters and outfits. Dad and Mom enjoyed many years with the Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was a fantastic Crib player, beating us in Crib right up until 2 months before her passing.
Mom’s closest friends, Auntie Ina Addison and Auntie Margaret Maughan were very special to her, and they spent many hours together with their children. So much love and laughter.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband George in 2004, her 3 sisters, Florrie Knox, Dora Newfield and Joan Newfield and their spouses, her brother Jim Portman, her parents Charles and Sophia Portman, her husband George’s family: Joe, Ella, Tom, Albert, Gladys, Walker and Bill and their spouses and his parents Walker and Eleanor Addison.
She is survived by her sons, Chuck (Linda) Addison, Gordon Addison, Jim (Lorraine) Addison. Daughters Vicki (John) Turner and Laurie (Gary) Schley. 17 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews that she was very close to and close family friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Dodo for his kind and supportive care. To Dover House: Nurses, Jess, Annika, Annie, Brianna and all the Nurses, Care Aids and staff for their loving care of our Mom. She lived at Dover House for the last 3 years and was very happy there.
We love and will miss her and are proud to call her our Mom. “Thank You Mom for everything.”
A Celebration of Life Tea will be held at a later date.
“When someone you love becomes a Memory, the Memory becomes a Treasure.”
