Al & Geri have been neighbours for many years.  Although our passions took us in different directions, whenever I passed Al on the street, riding his bike or driving his vintage car, he was always quick to wave and flash an enormous grin.  He always struck me as a person who’s cup was overflowing with happiness.  

There is no doubt he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Our sincere condolences.  You all have your special moments with Al to cherish so hold these  memories close to your heart.  Neil and I have wonderful memories of motorcycle rides with Al and Geri when they came to Calgary and enjoyed many Christmas Eve dinners with our mutual grandsons Dylan and Cameron.
It was a long battle for Al as well as for Geri and Tammy too but we know he is still perched on his bike, looking down on all of us and wishing everyone life's best from his great view point above.
Rest in peace dear friend.  You were one of the great ones!

Life presents us with many treasures and Al is one of them.  
He was a great neighbour and friend, never hesitating to offer help.
In a moment of need for our family,  during terrible winter conditions,  Al jumped in his well equipped vehicle and got us safely to our our destination.
That is just the kind of guy he was.
Our many Fillinger Crescent gatherings were blessed with his presence,  
sense of humour,  guitar skills, and his wonderful smile.
We were affectionately named "Blondie and the Big Guy".

My Uncle Al is responsible for my earliest memory, that of being placed on the gas tank of a motorcycle at about 5 years old and taken for a ride down the highway. When he left to join the air Force I experienced my very first sense of loss. He was always a connection for me between my Dad and his parents. I was very fortunate to be able to reconnect with Al 40 yrs down the road and share stories and motorcycle rides. He will always be a special person to me and he will be missed.

We remember Al as a kind, caring and loving family man. It is difficult to lose a loved husband, father, grandfather and friend at any time, but especially in days such as these, where we are unable to get together and celebrate his life and comfort his family. Our sincere condolences to the whole family especially of course Geri, Tammy, and his grandchildren. Rest in peace.

Grandpa Al had a big booming voice and a quick wit.  He was sharp and stern, yet still loving and always teasing.  We were the recipients of many of his nicknames, some of which we didn't even understand.  We learned to enjoy his two favourites--peanut butter and pickle sandwiches and fried spaghetti.
  
Grandpa Al was active and enthusiastic.  Many times he "shaved" our faces with the back of his razor and we jumped into bed with him and watched cartoons early in the morning.  He spent time with us playing cards and other games, camping, swimming, and taking us for motorcycle rides...we wish we had more time with him.  

And "Yes, dear," he has taken his pills.

We have often said that our men Al and Roy brought us together as friends.  We were very blessed with them both.  May they both enjoy the peace and serenity that they so deserve.  We will carry on their memories forever.

Al... or as we usually call you.. Bumpa Al..,

You had a heart for everyone as big as they come. 

Zosha, Max and I, we profoundly cherish the times we had with you and will forever be grateful for your abundance of love you showed us over the many years we had together.  

Your fatherly/grandfatherly support, your humour, generosity and kindness were always there as a foundation of the family. 

You were the rock for us to show us the way to live and to deal with the inevitable challenges of life. 

The kids enjoyed hearing stories about your adventures on your motorcycle with Grandma Geri and seeing how happy it made you both as a couple. 

It made the kids feel special when you laminated business cards for them. 

These are the fond family stories you made. Your legacy.

While it hurts terribly to lose you, along with Terry and Jacob, I will take solace in the thought that you are somehow now reunited with them and the rest of our lost loved ....and that you are watching over the rest of us, playing guitar, singing some old Beatles tunes and at peace.

Al was a very good friend and neighbor for many years,  we often went on motorcycle rides together with our wives,  He always called my wife Elizabeth '' Ducky, " had a big smile and handshake, 
always ready to give one a hand, he took me to Vancouver to pick up my motorcycle in his truck,  Good bye my friend, may you rest in peace, very sadly missed,  my sincere condolences to his wife , daughter and grandchildren .

    Most knew you as Al, but in my Family you were given the title of  “Big Elk” and a smile covered your face when you herd us calling you. You were a true “character “ in this life that would bring a smile to your friends and Family.  Many good memories over the years of work, motorcycling and social gatherings. Stepping up to the challenges of life seemed to be “just routine “ to you Al. So I’ll say enjoy the journey my friend Big Elk.

I remember Al as my best friend’s dad.  I remember Al as a proud father and grandfather, a hard worker and a leader; he was super smart and expert at many things.  Al was a man of high standards and high integrity.  And I can picture his smile, hear his laugh and see the twinkle in his eye even now.  Love and sympathy to Geri and Tammy and all the grandchildren. 

Al,
Thank you for being a true friend and mentor to me. Your steadfast support for Terry and I throughout our various musical endeavors will always mean the world to me. I miss your sharp wit and your go to one-liner, “What are you gonna do?”

While the visits were few, the great memories are many.

Words cannot express how difficult it has been to watch dementia slowly steal you from me, mom, your grandchildren, and your friends.  In a way, you gave us time to prepare for your inevitable passing, but that doesn't seem to make it less painful.  I believe, however, that you are finally at peace and that you are reunited with Terry, your siblings and your parents.   
I love you and I continue to miss you.
