Steve was born in Marshall, Texas on November 9, 1941, to Dennis Mackey Stovall, Jr. and Norma Ada Massingill. He was raised in Carthage, Texas and graduated from Carthage High School in 1960. In 1965, Steve met Linda Lou Miller in St. Louis, Missouri while attending Gradwohl School of Laboratory Techniques. They married on September 17th, 1966. They moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in January of 1968 where they have since lived, working, raising their family and retiring. Steve was a member of the Pals Class at Perritte Memorial United Methodist Church.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Katherine Stovall Branch.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, his son Stephen Dennis Stovall, Jr. and wife Sarah of Nacogdoches, his daughter Amy Rebecca Stovall King and husband Mitch of El Paso, Texas, his grandchildren Levi Stephen Stovall and wife Grace Garrigan of Nacogdoches, Ethan Dennis Stovall of Richardson, Texas, Jesse Triana Stovall of Nacogdoches, Rebekah Jordan King of El Paso, and great-granddaughter Winona Joy Garrigan-Stovall of Nacogdoches. Other survivors are brothers-in-law Herbert Branch of Woodville, Texas, Lowell Thomas Miller (Linda) of Flint, Michigan, and Guss Allen Miller (Linda) of San Tan Valley, Arizona.
Pallbearers are Levi Stovall, Ethan Stovall, Jesse Stovall, Rebekah King, Steve Branch, Charlie Branch, John Branch, Bob Coats, D.A. Deckard and Mike Ward.
Honorary pallbearers are first cousins and the surviving classmates of the Carthage High School Class of 1960.
The family is especially grateful to Bridgette Hardy and Debra Waters for their faithful and compassionate care, and to all of the physicians over the years. The family also wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Affinity Home Health and Affinity Hospice for the loving care provided to their husband, father, and grandfather.
A visitation for Steve will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Pastor Brad McKenzie will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community Benevolence Fund of Affinity Hospice ℅ 2708 S. Medford Dr., Lufkin, TX 75901 or a charity of your choice.
