Scott graduated Canton High School in 1985. After graduation, he served four years with the U.S. Army. Scott moved to Nacogdoches where he fell in love with and married Carol Spangler for 31 years of marriage. He got a job at Cal-Tex Lumber as a saw mill worker, eventually becoming supervisor and was with them for over 30 years.
He leaves behind: wife, Carol Spangler; daughter, Ashly Martin; son, Justin Spangler and wife Katherine son, Christian Johnson; grandchildren, Hannah, Hadley, Adyson, Isaac, Buck, Christopher, Jordyn and Lilah; sister, London Clarke and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Scott’s passion and devotion for his family was by far the top priority for him. His grandchildren were a big part of his life and he dedicated much of his time with them. Scott enjoyed fishing, football, playing cards and 1980’s music. He collected and obtained a unique and amazing assortment of comic books that included first editions and rare copies. Scott was an amazing video gamer and had made a multitude of friends from faraway places through this platform.
He is best described by many as easy going, reliable, honest and hardworking. Those closest to him, especially his grandchildren would observe the teddy-bear side of him. He had a simple, no-nonsense attitude with strong faith and a very dry sense of humor.
Perhaps, one of Scott’s best traits was the ‘look’ … you know, the one that says with a half-smile, that he knows something that you don’t and shake his head. Scott would often sit in the rocker on the deck and you would know by his look that he had found his slice of heaven.
A visitation for Scotty will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
Scotty will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Heights Cemetery, Mount Enterprise, Texas.
