Mary Ellen Hammack was born in August of 1930 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Clarence W. and Lula (Cooper) Dean. She passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024. She attended Nacogdoches High School and worked for Mise Sewing Factory in her youth.
In July of 1948, she married the love of her life, Harvey Hammack. They recently celebrated their 76" anniversary. Together, they raised three sons, took care of many family members in their home, and worked faithfully for the Lord. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene since the 1950s. Being a great cook, she prepared many church meals and visited shut-ins with baked goods. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, kept the church nursery for many, many years, and belonged to the Ladies' Quilters' group, making beautiful old-fashion homemade quilts.
Mary earned a general business degree and became a nurse in 1959, caring for surgical patients in Memorial Hospital, Dr. Bailey's office, and plant nurse for Pilgrim's Pride. She always had time to give medical advice to her friends and family for common illnesses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Harvey Allen Hammack, a great-great grandson, Parker Runnels, and her three brothers, James Dean, William Dean and Robert Dean. She is survived by her husband, Harvey, and sons, Tommy Hammack and wife, Wanda, Morris Dean Hammack, and wife, Ann, six grandchildren, Tammye Cook, Brad Hammack, and wife, Jayna, Christi Van Voast, James Hammack, Allen Hammack, and Jennifer Olivieri, and husband, Steve. She had twelve Great Grandchildren and seven Great-Great Grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews, who lovingly knew her as "Aunt Mary."
We want to thank her pallbearers, Brad Hammack, Austin Kollet, Risten Cook, Mike Kenney, Marlin Hughes, and Heath Bragg.
