Ms. Lillie Marie Commander passed away peacefully at home following a recent illness. She was born in Nacogdoches County as the third child of Jessie Koonce and Addie Myrl Newman Koonce in January 1932. Both parents preceded her in death. Also preceding her death were her sisters, Evelyn Koonce Anderson, Mavis Koonce Riddle and husband Clarence and youngest sister, Peggy Koonce Box and husband Clyde.
Marie married her husband, Arnold Ray Commander on January 21, 1950 and he preceded her in death February 3, 1991. Arnold and Marie were known in the community as owners of Koonce Supply on NW Stallings Drive where they operated the business since the early 1960’s and worked side-by-side until his death. She was a faithful lifetime member of University Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.
She is survived by her four children, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Survivors include son, James Arnold Commander and wife Wanda and their two sons, Christopher and Sean; daughters, Cynthia Marie Commander Pitts and Sheryl Ann Commander Hunter and her daughter, Jennifer; son, Kenneth David Commander and wife Rose Marie and their two children, Crystal Lowery and husband Michael and Clinton David Commander and wife Lisa. Marie is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Cayden Lowery, Cannon Commander, Cameron Lowery, Courtland Commander, Bradyn Hunter and Crew Commander.
A graveside service will be held, 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 5, 2021, Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches, Texas.
