David Odell Collins, age 71, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in his home, surrounded by family, in Nacogdoches, Texas. David was born August 5, 1950 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Parents Clifton Howard Collins and Ruth Laverne Porter Collins Derr.
David graduated from Nacogdoches High School. After high school, he went to work for International Paper until a fire destroyed it in 1984. Staying in the Timber Industry, he worked along with his father Clifton at Collins Fuel Wood for a number of years. In 1988, he became the Chief of Police for Mt. Enterprise. He stayed in that role until he retired in 2017 after 28 years of service. During those 28 years, he was a strong pillar for the small town that he proudly served and protected.
In his free time, he loved going to drag races, raising cows, growing a garden, all his tractors, and being around those he loved.
David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Wyatt Cole Spencer.
Those left to cherish his memory include Sheila Ann Collins, Kenneth Collins, Janell and David Rogers, Charles Collins, Jerry and Patricia Collins, Jason and Sonja Collins, Katie and David Sanders, Davy and Laurie Collins, Charles Collins, Kathy Crump, Shanda Collins, Jason and Layla Weaver, Daniel and Karah Weaver, Tammy and Michael Owens, Ricky and Stephanie Weaver, Julie and Danny Starling, 32 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
David will be laid to rest in Harmony Cemetery, Nacogdoches, TX.
