My condolences to Carolyn's family and friends. I came to know her after retirement. She became a welcomed visitor to my summer home in WI for fun times and cooler weather.  I share a crystal with many of her friends.  She touched the hearts of many

Dr. Mitchell was an amazing teacher of future teachers. She was fair, tough, and loving. She often came to mind when coaching our athletes.
She will be missed.

We were always blessed when Carolyn visited our gift shop. There are many, many rainbows in the world from all the crystals she gave as gifts. We hope that all the recipients will think of her whenever they see "her" rainbows.

The Perkins College of Education at SFA is grateful for the many years of service Dr. Mitchell provided.

My greatest symphathy is exptended to Carolyn's family and her close friends with her passing.  Carolyn was my closest friend for ten years over the time of our retirements.  During those years we traveled abroad and to many states with wonderful experiences. She exhibited professional service with honor and esteem as she advocated and supported many initiatives for girls and women in sport.  She will be remembered as a leader in Texas and nationally in her professional endeavors. Her spirit will remain with us who knew her, always.

On behalf of SWT's Volleyball Team from the early 70's, please accept our/my sincerest condolences for your loss.  

As a young woman I started my journey of higher education at SWT.  I was so fortunate when I join other young women on their own journey, on the volleyball court with the guidance of Susan Duke and Caroline Mitchell.  

My memories of that time are so numerous and wonderful, plentiful in character building and humility.  Ms Mitchell as we knew her in the classroom, friend and mentor outside the classroom, was a larger than life character we learned to love unconditionally.  We as a unit became family for life.  Our days together were the single most memorable and important years of my life as an undergraduate.  

As we grew and went our own way in life, our contact became less and less over the years.  With that being said, when we would get together, without skipping a beat we would pick up our friendship as if never a day went by without seeing each other, laughing and recalling so many memories of old. 

I hope your memories of your sister, with time, will overcome the sadness and pain your heart feels today.  Please know the profound positive influence this incredible person had on so many lives, had on my life.  

Cullene Vaughn

I was a student in Dr. Mitchell's undergraduate and graduate class. She later became a mentor and friend. She challenged me to be the best I could be and I am forever grateful.

My condolences for the family and friends. Dr. Mitchell was my college professor and I thoroughly enjoyed her classes. She was not afraid to tell you what she thought. She will be missed.
