A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church at 4:00 pm with Rev. Lorraine Brown officiating. Dr. Jeff McDonald will be assisting.. Guests are invited to a reception following the service in the church parlor. Graveside inurnment service will be conducted at 1:00 pm at Corpus Christi Seaside Memorial Park located at 4357 Ocean Dr. Corpus Christi, TX.
Dr. Mitchell is survived by her brothers, Michael Mitchell and wife Renee, Joe Mitchell and wife Becky; special friends, Albert Mowad, Betty Shinn, and Kay Hooper; and nieces, Lori and Susan.
Carolyn graduated from W.B Ray High School in Corpus Christi in 1957, earned her Bachelor Degree WBS A & I in Kingsville, TX and PhD in Kinesiology from Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX.
While living in south Texas, she was Lantana Queen of Texas A & I and participated in rodeo activities and in all sports. She came to SFA in 1976 and retired in 2002. She had many articles published in professional journals. She received the National Women’s Business and Professional Association, Woman of the Year Award and City of Nacogdoches, Woman of the Year. She was the Director of the Year for the Nacogdoches Treatment Center, Board Member of the Chamber of the Commerce, Pilot Club and earned numerous professional and civic awards.
Dr. Carolyn Mitchell was an avid sports fan, and had a knack of making people feel important in all arenas of her life. She was comfortable in an evening gown or boot and jeans. Dr. Carolyn loved people and loved to help them reach for their highest star. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial contributions may be offered to Nacogdoches Treatment Center, Accolade Hospice or the First United Methodist Church.
