Jim was born in Muskegon on September 15, 1947 to Gary James Dynes and Jantina Newmyer. His family subsequently moved to Jackson, Michigan until 1956, when they returned to Muskegon. Jim attended Muskegon Public Schools and graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1966. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably in Vietnam. Prior to his departure overseas, he married Donna Marie Ellis, and they recently celebrated their golden anniversary.
After Jim was discharged from military service, he moved back to Muskegon and worked at Shaw-Walker (Knoll Inc.) until his retirement. Jim was a well-known and popular figure in the Muskegon community. He was known as a person who would help anyone in need; friend or stranger alike. Also known as the man with the Abraham Lincoln statue in his yard, he graciously forgave those who severed Abe’s head when it was ultimately returned. More than anything else, Jim relished his family. He loved to “grill out” and Sunday dinners were a regular affair for the entire family.
Jim leaves behind; his wife, Donna; sister, Irene (Tom) Gierzak; two brothers, Al (Brenda) Dynes or Showlow, AZ, and Joe (Marcha) Dynes of Wyoming, MI; son, Jimmy (Jessica); daughter, Joann (Larry) Boone; four grandchildren, Jacob, Lilly, Meghan, and Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Ever Rest Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel 1783 E Keating Avenue Muskegon. Interment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with a luncheon to follow at the Fruitport Eagles.
